Leisure travel to the Caribbean and Mexico from Canada grew by 4.5% in 2015.
- Arrivals grew at an average annual rate of 7.0% between 2006 and 2014 — has resulted in higher travel prices.
- Canadians are savvy travellers who are influenced by the availability of affordable, clean, and safe tourism infrastructure in any given destination.
- Compared to 2012, carriers have increased capacity to Caribbean destinations by 64.9% and by 42.9% to Mexico.
- The winter travel season continues to be the most important period for Canadian travel to the Caribbean and Mexico.
- Modest growth in Canada’s economy combined with an aging population, a less favourable exchange rate, and higher prices will result in slower visit growth to the Caribbean and Mexico in the coming years.

- Most cruise lines have made little progress on both sustainability and transparency when it comes to disclosing their effect on the environment. Disney Cruise Line was ranked as the greenest cruise line overall, followed by Cunard Cruise Line and Holland America Line. Ranking last were P&O Cruises, MSC Cruises, Crystal Cruises, and Costa Cruises.
- The paper from Amadeus Travel Intelligence outlines how data analytics can be used to develop innovative products, services, and processes that better meet the needs of their customers. It explains that travel companies must be open to experimentation, new ideas and new approaches. The paper includes case studies of how Qantas and Avianca Brasil are using data analytics supported by Amadeus Travel Intelligence to optimise operations and become more customer-centric
- The second edition of the study delved deeper into the human factors to gain deeper insight into the connection between a passenger’s use of technology and their emotions at different stages of the journey. To better understand passengers’ satisfaction with different technology, they examined their intention to re-use or change those choices the next time they fly. The survey indicates that 91% of passengers using self-service technology at some stage of their air travel journey will repeat the experience. It also shows that passengers prefer technology-delivered over people-delivered service.

- Rome2rio, the global and multimodal search specialist, has produced the inaugural Global Connectivity Ranking. London is the world’s most connected city with 351 direct international flights. Paris is second with connectivity to 291 destinations followed by Frankfurt (278) and
Amsterdam (242). The most internationally connected city in North America is Toronto with 154 different destinations (mostly within the US.). Travel Daily News
- IATA has revised its 2016 financial outlook for global air transport industry profits upwards to $39.4 billion, up from $36.3 forecast in December 2015. According to IATA figures, 2016 is expected to be the fifth consecutive year of improving aggregate industry profits. PAX News
- According to the US Department of Transportation, Airlines are doing a better job of sticking to their schedules, and consumer complaints are falling. Hawaiian Airlines and Delta Air Lines were the best at staying on schedule, while Spirit Airlines was last, arriving late more than one-fourth of the time. Skift
- IATA has released a preliminary analysis of the financial and economic impact of the Brexit decision on the air transport industry. Preliminary estimates suggest that the number of UK air passengers could be 3-5% lower by 2020, driven by the expected downturn in economic activity and the fall in the sterling exchange rate. - A boutique airline has launched an all-you-can-fly pass for travelers who make frequent trips between New York, Paris and London. For $35,000, travelers can purchase the Unlimited flight pass on the all-business-class carrier La Compagnie. Unlimited tickets are the latest trend from the industry of air travel. Canoe.ca
- Tour operators have seen unexpected changes in booking this year, with tourists choosing alternative destinations and booking their vacations much closer to their date of departure. Off-the-beaten-path destinations have seen a surge in bookings while traditional tours to cities have fallen off. Skift
- According to the hotel technology company TravelClick, hotels chains direct booking is working but the travel-agent distribution channel is more important. The industry’s first-quarter performance shows that the GDS channel is growing 60% faster than direct booking. Travelmarket report
- Cruise Lines International Association announced the cruise industry has surpassed 2015 ocean cruise passenger projections and has increased passenger expectations for 2016 – a sign the industry is stronger than ever. The industry reported a total of 23.2 million passengers on ocean cruises globally in 2015, up from a projection of 23 million, and a 4-percent increase over 2014. CLIA
- New research from ASTA proves that travel agents save consumers time and money. Consumers report that travel agents save them an average $452 per trip, and four hours in travel planning. ASTA
- Zika virus concerns likely impacted Caribbean hotel occupancy from January through April, according to STR. Compared with the same period a year ago, hotel occupancy fell 2.3 points to 72.9%. Average daily rate was down 1.4% to $268.86, and revenue per available room dropped 4.4% to $195.99. Caribbean News Digital
- According to Caribbean Tourist Organization, first-quarter of arrival numbers to the Caribbean region jumped 7.3%, to 8.5 million visitors in 2016. Tourist arrivals are expected to surpass the 30 million mark for the first time this year, following a record 28.7 million arrivals in 2015. Travel Weekly

- The Guyanese government has designated tourism as a priority sector of the economy. - In a statement regarding the ‘Brexit’, the WTTC stated that “travel to, from and within the EU and UK will not be affected in the short term. The process set out by the Lisbon Treaty allows for a two year period of negotiation once the UK formally states its intention to leave the EU.” PAX News
- HRS Hotel Global Solutions has revealed the latest trends in hotel rates on the 10 cities that will host matches of the European Championship. More than the half (52%) of surveyed hoteliers said that this major event affects their pricing policy, whom:

- Air Canada Vacations has participated in Pedal for Kids, a fundraiser in support of the Montreal Children’s Hospital. This is Air Canada Vacations’ sixth year participating. To date, the company has raised close to $130,000 – $21,500 was raised this year alone. PAX News
